Primary Clients

Client channel, buying context, client-base concentration and how clients have arrived.

Primary client channel

Art procurement and art consultancy firms are Semblance's primary client channel.

Semblance typically works with curators and art consultants who commission artwork for hospitality and commercial interior projects on behalf of their clients.

These firms are collaborators and clients, not competitors or intermediaries to remove.

Confirmed examples include Artlink, Saatchi Art, HK Design Studio and Kramer and Bell.

Secondary client groups

  • hospitality-focused interior designers and architectural studios
  • hotel groups and hospitality developers
  • commercial and property developers
  • other professional specifiers commissioning artwork for designed interiors

End-client context

The final artwork may be created for hotels, cruise ships, restaurants, luxury developments, offices and other commercial interiors, even where Semblance's direct client is the procurement or consultancy firm managing the project.

Confirmed buying context

Current project evidence shows that clients may need:

  • original artwork created around a specific project brief
  • existing artwork adapted to suit a particular space, palette, format or composition
  • a coherent body of work across multiple rooms or spaces
  • artwork developed clearly enough for client review and approval
  • high-resolution artwork files prepared to agreed production specifications
  • one senior creative lead across a substantial commission

The BoTree and Meyer Werft projects provide strong evidence for these needs, but both came through Artlink. The needs are therefore well evidenced within that relationship, but not yet broadly validated across the wider market.

Client-base concentration

Current project evidence is concentrated. BoTree and Meyer Werft both came through Artlink.

The portfolio therefore demonstrates a broader range of work than the current client base. Diversifying relationships across additional art procurement and consultancy firms is a priority.

This concentration should be kept in mind when drawing wider conclusions about the needs or behaviour of the market.

How clients have arrived

The major Semblance commissions to date have come through inbound discovery, existing relationships or warm referral rather than direct cold outreach.

This pattern supports a relationship-led acquisition approach centred on credibility, completed work, referrals and selective outreach.

Cold outreach is not excluded. Kramer and Bell responded approximately one year after an initial cold email and subsequently purchased a fine-art print at gallery rate. This shows that carefully targeted outreach can have a long commercial tail, even where it does not produce an immediate response.

Geographic scope

Semblance works internationally from Cape Town.
