1. Semblance's role relative to supplied project parameters

Semblance does not generally decide where artwork should be placed, what size it should be, or what application a project requires. Those decisions are normally established upstream by the interior designer, art-procurement firm and client, then supplied to Semblance as part of the approved brief.

Semblance's role is to interpret those given parameters and to create or adapt artwork that responds successfully to them. This can include the required dimensions, format, palette, mood, subject direction and architectural context.

Dimensions, placement, format and the number of artworks are generally fixed upstream. Broader creative directions such as mood, palette, subject matter or an aesthetic reference may leave genuine room for Semblance's interpretation.

Semblance may give technical advice where a supplied requirement could undermine the artwork, for example where a single photograph will not withstand a particular crop or a four-metre application. The final decision remains with the project team.

Semblance must not be described as responsible for art placement, interior specification, printing, framing, shipping or installation.

2. Singita artwork selection

HK Design Studio selected the Singita artworks from Semblance's existing catalogue, for a development HK Design Studio had designed. Semblance did not propose or curate the selection.

The project must not be presented as evidence that Semblance directed the placement or selection, and must not be taken to prove more than an existing-work selection made by the project's design team.
