2. What Semblance Is

Semblance Studios is a creative art studio providing art direction and custom artworks for commercial, hospitality, and interior-led projects. The core service is interpreting client briefs and creating original, bespoke artwork — not selling from a fixed catalogue or representing other artists.

Primary positioning statement (internal anchor — not verbatim copy): "An art studio creating commissioned work for hospitality and commercial interiors."

Key characteristics:

  • Every project personally led by the Creative Director
  • Can interpret virtually any brief in virtually any visual style
  • Versatility proven by diversity of completed projects — never claimed in copy
  • Mockups and concepts developed rapidly via refined creative workflow
  • Final artworks delivered as high-resolution digital files, print-ready at any scale
  • The Work section on the site functions as a style reference — clients use it to indicate aesthetic direction, then commission custom work
  • Operates on a project basis, shaping each body of work to suit scale, context, and installation requirements

---

3. What Semblance Is Not

These exclusions are structural and intentional. They apply to every copy, messaging, and positioning decision:

  • Not a fine art practice or gallery-facing platform
  • Not a personal portfolio for Gavin's fine art or advertising photography
  • Not an AI product company or technology studio
  • Not a branding or CI agency
  • Not a content studio producing high-volume social media assets
  • Not a print catalogue or stock art operation
  • Not a multi-artist roster representing other creators
  • Not trend-led or hype-driven

---

4. Core Capabilities (Proven — Real Projects Only)

  • Art direction for commercial and hospitality environments
  • Creation of custom artworks for large-scale interior applications
  • Interpretation of diverse briefs across a wide range of visual styles
  • Rapid development of tailored mockups and concept presentations
  • Development and supply of original artwork collections
  • Adaptation of existing works for specific spaces
  • Delivery of print-ready and installation-ready artwork files at any scale

---

5. Completed Projects

These projects demonstrate range and capability. Their diversity is the strongest proof of versatility — more effective than any copy.

6. Client Types & Channel

Primary client channel: Art procurement and consultancy firms (e.g. Artlink, Artelier, Rise Art Pro, DAC Art Consulting)

  • These firms commission Semblance to execute work for their end clients
  • They are clients, not competitors
  • This is the most important strategic distinction in the business

Also works with:

  • Interior designers and architectural studios
  • Hospitality developers and hotel groups
  • Commercial developers
  • Agencies requiring specialist art creation support

---

7. Competitive Landscape

Semblance does not compete with:

  • Art procurement/consultancy firms — these are potential clients
  • Print catalogue operations (Sensaria, Indiewalls, Kline Collective) — volume/stock, not custom
  • Large multi-discipline studios doing physical sculpture, glass, ceramics, textiles

Closest structural competitors:

  • Artistic Licence (UK, 35+ years) — multi-artist studio creating bespoke artwork across paintings, multimedia, digital art, 3D-reliefs, sculpture for hospitality and interiors
  • Lumai Studio (Mallorca) — small studio positioning as "discreet creative partner" to interior designers, canvas/ceramics/textile/resin

Semblance's differentiation:

  • Single senior creative director with international fine art credentials personally leading every project
  • Extreme stylistic versatility — can interpret any brief in any visual direction
  • Speed of concept development via refined digital workflow
  • The combination of credibility (Hasselblad Master, 1:54, AKAA), range, speed, and personal involvement does not exist in identified competitors

---

8. Creative Director — Gavin Goodman

For client-facing use — commercial credibility leads:

  • 2021 Hasselblad Master (Fine Art category)
  • 20+ years experience across commercial and fine art
  • Direct creative oversight on every Semblance project
  • Proven delivery for luxury hospitality clients internationally

Supporting fine art context:

  • Solo exhibitions across three continents: 1:54 Contemporary African Art Fair (New York and London), AKAA (Paris), Investec Cape Town Art Fair, Filafriques Gallery (Switzerland), ImageNation (Milan), Amani Gallery (Abidjan)
  • Prestigious advertising campaigns with international agencies
  • African cultural influence and contemporary minimalism as artistic foundation
  • Background in cinematography — deep understanding of storytelling, light, colour, composition

Base: Cape Town, South Africa. Works with clients internationally.

Important: The Creative Director page answers "who is leading my project and why should I trust them?" — not a personal art portfolio. Fine art credentials support commercial credibility but do not lead.

9. Messaging Principles

  • Credibility over novelty — always
  • Evidence over explanation — let project diversity prove versatility
  • Restraint over elaboration — fewer words, more confidence
  • Client-facing language only — procurement firms, designers, developers
  • Process is invisible — clients don't need to know or care how work is made
  • AI is a tool, not the product — never call Semblance an "AI studio"
  • Speed is a practical advantage — don't market it in a way that cheapens the work
  • Fine art series (Vela, Amani, others) may appear in environmental mockups across the site as creative direction — not presented as Semblance catalogue items

---

10. Non-Negotiables (Hard Constraints)

  1. Semblance stands independently from Gavin's fine art identity and advertising photography career
  2. The site speaks to clients — not creatives, galleries, or technologists
  3. AI is a tool, not the positioning — never call Semblance an "AI studio"
  4. Do not claim versatility in copy — prove it through project diversity
  5. Process is not the differentiator — range, quality, and delivery are
  6. Credibility over novelty — always
  7. Speed is a practical advantage — don't cheapen it by making it the lead
  8. The business must scale without chaos or dilution of creative oversight
  9. Long-term sustainability over short-term experimentation
  10. SEO baked in from day one — not retrofitted after build

---

11. Market Context

Semblance operates in a small, concentrated, relationship-driven B2B market. The buyers are art procurement firms, hospitality developers, hotel groups, and cruise line fit-out teams. There are roughly 200-300 relevant decision makers globally with the budget and the brief.

This changes everything about the marketing approach. The automated agent workflows, mass social posting, and content volume plays built for B2C or high-volume SaaS solve a problem Semblance doesn't have. Semblance's problem is reaching a small, specific, high-value audience credibly.

The governing principle: quality of relationship over volume of reach.

---

12. Post-Launch Priority Sequence

  1. Get the website right first. Everything else points back to it. A procurement director who hears about Semblance will check the site before responding to any outreach.
  1. Document case studies properly. BoTree, Meyer Werft, and Rockefeller are the foundation. Each needs a proper write-up: client brief, scope, creative approach, outcome. These are the primary sales collateral, not just website content.
  1. Warm outreach before cold. The existing network is underutilised. Procurement firms already worked with through Artlink, contacts from the cruise ship project, anyone in the hospitality world already known to Gavin. First new clients will come from here.
  1. Targeted cold outreach to procurement firms. A personalised email to Artelier with the BoTree case study attached will outperform months of Instagram automation. This market is relationship-driven. Volume outreach is the wrong model.
  1. Automate only what's proven manually. Once the manual outreach process works and you understand what converts, then look at automating lead discovery. Never automate a broken process.

---

13. The Offer (Hormozi Framework)

The offer to an art procurement firm needs to be concrete enough that a procurement director can immediately see how it fits their process. Not "we make custom art" — but a defined scope, timeline, revision process, and delivery that removes their risk.

The value equation:

  • Dream outcome: beautiful, on-brief, on-budget artwork that makes their client happy and their job easier
  • Perceived likelihood: Hasselblad Master credentials, BoTree, Meyer Werft, Rockefeller — proof it's been done at this level
  • Time delay: faster than commissioning traditional artists
  • Effort and sacrifice: lower than dealing with multiple artists — Gavin handles everything, single point of contact

---

14. Channels

LinkedIn — the one social platform worth taking seriously for Semblance. Buyers are on LinkedIn, not Instagram. Consistent presence builds credibility that converts. Target: art procurement directors, hospitality developers, luxury interior design firms. The target audience is small and concentrated — mass outreach is not appropriate. Build a clean, researched target list for quality relationship building.

Instagram — visual credibility tool, not a lead generation channel. When a potential client finds Semblance through another channel and checks Instagram, it needs to look right.

SEO / Inbound — genuinely important for the long term. When an art procurement firm searches "custom artwork hospitality interiors" or "bespoke art for cruise ships," Semblance should appear. Google Search Console from day one, core keywords baked into every project page.

Cold Outreach — high conversion potential when done right. Personalised, specific, leads with value not pitch. Not templated, not automated.

---

15. LinkedIn Content Formats

Four formats that cut through for B2B audiences. One considered post per week maximum — quality over frequency.

Brandjacking: Take a decision a well-known hospitality brand made and use it as the frame for genuine insight. When a notable property opens with a strong art programme, Gavin has credible perspective. Watch: Sleeper, Hospitality Design, Dezeen.

Newsjacking: Be the first credible voice to contextualise something significant in the industry. Not summarise — contextualise. The hospitality trade press moves slowly; LinkedIn is always late. Spotting something in Sleeper before it circulates is very achievable.

Namejacking: Reference a specific person the target audience follows. For Semblance: respected figures within the hospitality design world — a notable interior designer, a respected hotelier, a leading art consultant. Smaller audiences but far more targeted and on-brand.

Hot Takes: A contrarian position on something the industry accepts as true. Gavin has 20 years of genuine perspective — what briefs get wrong, what procurement firms actually need versus what they ask for, what AI does and doesn't change. These are positions he genuinely holds, which is what makes them work.

Example territories: what most hotel art briefs get wrong / why procurement firms undervalue the brief stage / what the rise of AI-generated art actually means for custom commissioned work / why installation photography matters more than the artwork itself for hospitality marketing.

16. Content Pipeline

Not a content treadmill. One substantial piece per month minimum.

  • SuperWhisper captures voice thoughts on a project, a process, a perspective
  • Claude structures and edits into a post
  • LinkedIn first, Instagram adaptation second, site article if substantial enough

What to write about: Project stories, process insights, perspective pieces, E-E-A-T signals — expertise demonstrated through specific detail.

Documentation habit for every new project:

  • Photograph or request photography of the installed artwork
  • Write up the brief before delivery
  • Capture the creative approach in 100-150 words
  • Store everything in a dedicated project folder

---

17. Agent Architecture — When and How

Now (pre-launch): One well-configured agent — Claude Code with a strong CLAUDE.md — is more valuable than a complex multi-agent system.

Phase 2 (Month 2-3 post-launch): Lead discovery agent. Monitors hospitality trade press, hotel development announcements, cruise line procurement feeds. When it finds a relevant opportunity it adds it to a Google Sheet with context. Built with n8n + Claude.

Phase 2 mature: Content agent — takes a new project completion, drafts a LinkedIn post and Instagram caption in Gavin's voice, queues for approval.

What does NOT apply: Mass outreach agents, automated social posting without human approval, content volume automation.

18. Process Documentation — Loom-to-SOP Method

Film yourself doing a repeatable task on Loom, narrating the thinking. Click Loom AI → Create SOP. Clean it up, save to systems folder.

Processes worth documenting: interpreting a new client brief, developing and presenting mockups, handling revision rounds, packaging and delivering final files, onboarding a new procurement firm relationship.

Wispr Flow can serve the same function for text-based processes — narrate the process, paste transcript into Claude, ask it to structure as an SOP.
